MENSTRUAL CRAMP REMEDIES
There are a variety of menstrual cramp remedies that can help reduce menstrual pain--from certain foods to various exercises. However, it’s important to diagnose the cause of menstrual pain in order to find the best treatment.
* Ginger may alleviate symptoms of the common cold, the flu, headaches, and menstrual pain. Grate a small piece of ginger, add it to hot water, and drink for menstrual cramp relief. has long been used to relieve the congestion of colds and allergies, and as a digestive aid.
* Papaya contains carotene plus high amounts of vitamins C and A, as well as lower amounts of iron and calcium. This wonder fruit is low in calories and high in nutritional value, is good for the skin, and aids in digestion.
* Cinnamon may soothe menstrual cramps. Additionally, the spice provides an excellent source of dietary fiber, calcium, and iron, as well as manganese, which may also help relieve the symptoms of menstruation.
* Calcium can help reduce muscle cramping during menstruation. It is recommended 1,000 mg per day for women between the ages of 19-50. Calcium is also available in supplement form. However, you should speak to your doctor before taking supplements to find out if it’s safe for you. high in calcium include: dairy products, sesame seeds, almonds, leafy green vegetables
* Water It sounds odd, but drinking water keeps your body from retaining water and helps to avoid painful bloating during menstruation. Warm or hot wateris usually better for cramps, as hot liquids increase blood flow to the skin and may relax cramped muscles. You can also eat water-based foods to increase your hydration, including: lettuce, celery, cucumbers, watermelon, berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
Good Foods Poor nutrition can lead to deficiencies that can worsen menstruation symptoms, so stock up on foods packed with essential vitamins and nutrients, including the following: brown rice (contains vitamin B6, which may reduce bloating), walnuts, almonds, and pumpkin seeds (rich in manganese, which eases cramps), olive oil and broccoli (contain vitamin E), chicken, fish, and leafy green vegetables(contain iron, which is lost during menstruation)
* Foods to AVOID during menstruation, it’s a good idea to avoid foods that cause bloating and water retention. Some of the biggest culprits include: fatty foods, alcohol, carbonated beverages
* Cut the Caffeine Reducing or cutting caffeine can alleviate cramps and decrease tension. Rethink your morning cup of coffee or tea and forgo consuming chocolate and soda during menstruation. Instead, try soothing (caffeine-free) ginger or mint teas or hot water flavored with lemon. If you need a sugar fix, snack on some strawberries or raspberries.
* Heat to your abdomen and lower back may relieve pain as effectively as medicine. If you don’t have a hot water bottle or heating pad, take a warm bath or use a hot towel.
* Exercise The idea of intense excercise immediately before or during your period may make you cringe if you are experiencing painful cramps. However, exercise releases endorphins, which act as a natural painkiller and mood lifter.
Moderate activity such as walking can be beneficial during your period in place of more strenuous activity. Yoga is a gentle exercise that also releases endorphins and helps prevent or reduce menstrual symptoms. Other benefits include: increased blood flow to the reproductive organs, stress relief, relaxation
Note: Thanks to my awesome friend Heidi Lockhart I found that during menstruation, it’s best to perform restorative poses.

MY SECRET
TO LOOKING YOUNG AND STAYING HEALTHY... DRINK WARM WATER Most of us start our mornings with a fresh, hot cup of coffee or tea to warm our bodies after getting out of bed. Research has shown that regularly drinking very warm water, especially in the morning, can heal our bodies, providing digestive power and reducing metabolic waste that could have built up in our immune system. While drinking warm water may not suit your taste buds, it may be beneficial to put the caffeine and tea aside for your health's sake. Here are six reasons why: Halts Premature Aging One of my one of my many secrets to staying healthy and looking YOUNG is drinking warm water! Premature aging is a girl’s worst nightmare, but thank God, this can be prevented by drinking warm water. The presence of toxins in our body can lead to aging faster, but warm water can help cleanse the body from those toxins, while repairing skin cells to increase elasticity. Sheds Excess Pounds If you’re on journey to loose those unwanted pounds, chances are you’ve heard drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning can help with weight loss. Warm water increases body temperature, which therefore increases the metabolic rate. An increase in metabolic rate allows the body to burn more calories throughout the day. It can also help the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys to function even better. Improves Blood Circulation The fat deposits in the body are eliminated along with accumulating deposits in the nervous system when you drink a glass of warm water. This flushes out the toxins that are circulating throughout the body and then enhances blood circulation. Making sure the muscles are relaxed will eliminate poor circulation and blood flow. Cleanses Digestion A very warm cup of water in the morning can help cleanse your body by flushing out toxins. Water and other liquids help break down the food in your stomach and keep the digestive system on track. Warm water will help break down these foods even faster, making them easier for you to digest. Drinking cold water during or after a meal can actually harden the oil in consumed foods and therefore create a fat deposit in the intestine. In addition adding ice to processed cold water will strip it of natural-containing minerals. As these minerals are essential to keeping the digestive tract healthy. Aids Constipation The consumption of warm water increases the tightening of the intestines, which optimizes elimination. At one point or another, many of us are plagued by this common stomach problem where we have little to no bowel movement. The strain felt during elimination, accompanied by bloating, is brought on by a lack of water in the body. Drinking very warm water in the morning on an empty stomach can help improve bowel movements and aid constipation while breaking down foods as they smoothly pass through the intestines. Stimulating the bowels will help return your body back to normal functioning. Alleviates Pain Warm water is considered to be nature’s most powerful home remedy. It can help in alleviating pain from menstruation to headaches. The heat from warm water is known to have a calming and soothing effect on the abdominal muscles, which can help provide instant relief for cramps and muscle spasms. Research has shown that warm or hot water is usually better for cramps, as hot liquids increase blood flow to the skin and help relax the cramped muscles. |
MY SECRET IN 2015
TO LOOKING YOUNG AND STAYING HEALTHY... STAY BALANCED Let me start off by saying Happy New Year! As Marvin Sapp says...So Glad I Made it! In 2015 staying healthy will require for more than just exercising my body 2 to 3 days a week. For me at the wise and young age of 50 I have to keep my guards up at all times seeing I am in a fight against the Flesh and the Spirit! Being a Christian I have to feed my spirit just as much as I feed my flesh! I have committed to nurture, cultivate, protect and strengthen my spirit just as I nurture, cultivate, protect and strengthen my flesh. For me, it is not rocket science. If I work out 2-3 days a week for an hour then I am going to do the same for my spirit by spending an hour in the Word of God 2-3 days a week and this does not include Sundays. I have found this to be work for me seeing my Spirit is willing but my flesh is weak when it come to doing the right thing. The adage "7 days without Prayer makes One Weak is so true." If I miss my time in the Word I will, and I repeat...I will curse out the person that so deserves and needs it; do unto my enemies as they do unto me all with a smile! If I miss my days of workout I will eat everything that looks good, feel irritated and snap my husbands head off just for saying 'Good Morning Pretty Gurl" and so on. Now on the other hand when all is well and balanced with my spirit and flesh, I love my enemies and pray for them, give when I don't know why, crave veggies, water and green tea! You get my point. I promise you this type of commitment takes time and it took me some time. It's a balancing act didn't happen over night. I had to work my way up to it just as I had to work my way up to lifting a certain amount of weight. Feed your spirit and you will gain wisdom as to how to take care of your TEMPLE, your body. As it is written...Matthew 6:33 'But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.' To establish and maintain a balanced life start with baby steps. Start with 15 minutes in the Word and work your way up! Before you know it... you will be standing on your head and looking at life differently. |
