FAILURE... The third reason most of us become discouraged is our past failures. How can something that has happened in the "PAST" have so much power over our 'PRESENT and even our "FUTURE"? Because we give that which was dead...life, by feeding it our time!
Have you ever noticed that we will remember the bad times before we remember the good times. Even reminiscing on the good times we may find ourselves saying "BUT REMEMBER WHEN WE COULDN'T OR WHEN WE DIDN'T?" Reflecting on the bad even if it is just for a fleeing moment can either paralyze us or propel us.
Here's how you can tell if your reflecting on the past is all good or all bad.
If you smile when you are saying "But remember when we couldn't or when we did't, it's all GOOD because you are not allowing your past to ruin your future but rather you keep it pushing by celebrate the fact that you made it in spite of your past failures. You may even find yourself chuckling about it for a minute.
Now on the other hand, when you find yourself saying "But remember when we couldn't or remember when we didn't" and your countenance changes for the worst ...it's time to abandon those thoughts quick, fast and in a hurry!
It's okay to remember the bad so that you won't repeat it but when it stops you from going after your dreams and goals, 'Mmmm Houston we have a problem.'
We are all human and it's hard not to reflect on who did us wrong, the relationships that went wrong, the wrong turns we took in your career, and the wrong words that came out of our month.
If at any time you feel like you can't accomplish a goal because you have been there before and the results were not what you expected... just remember...
END = Effort Never Dies and NO = Next Opportunity!
In my previous entry I noted that "FATIGUE " is one of many reasons individual become "DISCOURAGED" when trying to reach their goals. In this entry I will list yet another cause..."FRUSTRATION". When you have set new goals AND old, broken down, goals, memories, things, and people are still in the picture you may find yourself becoming more frustrated in accomplishing their goal. This often times causes you to loose sight of your goal (s). Let me keep it real, we may have so much junk in our lives that we don't know how to get on with the real business of living and carrying out your goals. Any time you undertake an important project there'll be rubbish to remove, and I know it can be frustrating. The key here is realizing that you can learn what to do with it so that you don't give up on your goals. First, identify the "RUBBISH" in your life. They may be trivial things that waste your time, consume your energy and keep you from becoming all you want to be. These things keep you from doing what is most important, like building a relationship with your spouse and children, or being active in your area of giftedness at church. The rubbish in your life are those things that get in the way: the interruptions that keep you from accomplishing your goals. Let me tell you, you need to deal with them immediately by taking out the trash! No one else is going to do it for you. God won't and you can't "pray it away" Need an example...God didn't build the ark....Noah had to build the ark...God gave him the blueprint for it. Don't always think that you can pray your rubbish away. And, God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Paradise and said "Take care of it" It's in the maintaining the blessing God has given you that you learn the difference between what's important in life and what's not. And that's a lesson you'll keep learning over and over and over again.
Let's face it all of us have been discouraged. But what causes discouragement! It's simple, I call them the "F" words! The first one is FATIGUE. Sometimes when you are pursuing your goals and dreams, your strength may fail. You are exhausted, worn out, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that discouragement is strictly a spiritual problem. I know I have oftentimes found myself saying "maybe I need to recommit my life to God. When in fact the real problem was that I was burned out. I needed rest and renewal. I found that the most spiritual thing I could do was to relax or go to bed and take some time off. When does Fatigue and discouragement rear their ugly heads? When we are halfway into our project! When we can see the finish line! You see everyone works hard at first. It's because of the newness of that project. It is all exciting and novel but after the newness wears off and the work gets boring. You will notice that life has settled into a routine, which turns into a rut, then a ritual. Be mindful. When FATIGUE walks in FAITH walks out! That's why the psalmist said, "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quite waters, he restores my soul. (Ps 23:2-3) FATIGUE is one of the biggest causes of discouragement, and it is often shows up about midpoint. It's why we leave so may project unfinished. Bottom line: If you need time off...TAKE IT before life TAKES you out.
Find out the second source of discouragement "FRUSTRATION" in my next blog entry.
We all know how a newborn desires it's mothers pure milk. With an intensity you can't imagine unless you have heard the midnight cry! It doesn't matter that you only had 1 hour of sleep the night before or the fact that you are sick and drained of all energy. At this point, it is all about the infant getting their needs met NOW! My question is when was the last time your spiritual stomach growled so much that at midnight you just had to get up and feed your soul on God's Word! For the infant that desires pure milk...imitation milk...watered down milk or even formula will not cut it. Once you start mixing foreign ingredients with their milk their stomachs will reject it! Just think of "Projectile Vomitting." You see they know the difference between the real thing and watered down milk. In the same manner, once you have tasted and GOODNESS of God, watered down messages will only have you frustrated, disillusioned and hard to get along with! (As my Pastor Marc Anthony Sr. says) Your spiritual taste buds won't let you stomach it. Watered down, feel good messages are only temporary... they are just fillers. As I train for my upcoming NPC Bikini competition I see myself hungering for more health and holiness. Half hearted workouts and "quickies quiet times" just won't cut it! They are both like junk food. They are designed to fill a need with a quick fix that may carry you for a while, but they won't provide any real nourishment. Cutting corners on your "holiness and healthiness" will leave you malnourished and underdeveloped. I encourage you not only hunger for healthiness for your temple but hunger for holiness for your soul! I challenge you to taste and see that the Lord is GOOD!

“WAIT” Training vs “WEIGHT” Training…Both will build CONFIDENCE, require FOCUS and PATIENCE. One may seem passive and other seems aggressive. When it is all said and done, both will STRENGTHEN you.
I am a witness that God energize those who get tired and give fresh strength to those that dropout. For even the young tire out…even those considered to be in their prime stumble and fall. BUT those who wait upon the Lord receive fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind (Isaiah 40:31TM) When we choose to wait on the Lord and spend in his presence we are truly strengthen by his promises, confident in his covenant and focused because of HIS faithfulness. As I embark upon new territory on my road to competing in my first NPC Bikini (National Physique Committee) I must wait on the Lord for strength just as much as I lift my weights for strength. I am constantly reminded of my pastors remarks; ‘If you put God last….You won’t last!’ For me, both Waiting on the Lord and lifting Weights are a lifestyle. However I have found “Wait Training is the ultimate in strength conditioning!
Tell me…which one do you depend on to give you strength?
I am guessing some of you have made New Year’s resolutions and some have even kept them thus far. My hats off to you and I applaud your commitment! For those of you who have missed the mark, fallen short, or simply abandoned your goals this is not a blog entry to put you down, but rather one to give you hope and a future! There is a time for everything and this is the time to ‘Tear Down then Build Up!’
If you have struggled with your professed, confessed but not yet possessed New Year’s resolution ask yourself if you tried to do what so many of us done. “Did I add to before taking away? “Did I remove the old before bringing in the new?
In short, remove, tear down, get rid of and toss in the trash the old before you bring in the new…clean your house before bringing in your new furniture. "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins." Mark 2:22 In the same manner, your new thoughts, ideas, goals, visions and relationships call for a new and clean place take residence. This may include getting rid of your old clothes that bring about old behaviors, getting rid of old trinkets from your past relationships that you are holding onto for the ‘just in case’, kicking to the curb those acquaintances that keep you in the past telling you what you don’t need to do or need to go! Simply tell them to ‘take a number, go to the back of the line and wait until you call for them!’
In building up, "your job is to pull up and tear down, take apart and demolish, then start over, building and planting.”- Jeremiah 1:10
Believe me I am in the same process as you are. Here’s my situation, I have set a goal to transform my body within a certain amount of weeks. In order to prepare my muscles for this challenge, I have to tear them down to rebuild them to become leaner, stronger and toner ones. This way they are ready for the new weights I put on them and the new pressure I put them through. Without tearing them down, I can’t rebuild them!
I encourage you to throw away all those ‘Cant’s and open up some ‘CANS’…You CAN be a better wife or a better husband, You CAN be healthier, You CAN loose the weight, You CAN read your bible for 15 minutes a day, You CAN get out of debt, You CAN buy your home, You CAN commit to eating clean and healthy, You CAN workout for 15 to 30 minutes for 2 to 3 days a week, You CAN get that job, You CAN pass that class, You CAN stop lying, stealing, smoking, cursing and gossiping. YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STREGHTENS YOU….IN JESUS NAME!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday was my first day back to work from my long and well deserved Christmas break. As I returned, I expected to be bombarded with emails, voice messages, students, follow-ups, unfinished business from last year, emergencies, etc. I walked into my office and the first thing I did like any other morning was to turn on my office lights, my computer and remove my tennis shoes and put on my pumps. (You see, where I work the walk from my car to my office is a workout within itself. It is very hilly and I am not about to tweak my ankle, knee, hip or achilles for nothing or nobody). Once those things where done I knelt to say a prayer that has sustained me for the 25 years I have been employed there! I just wanted to share it with you, my readers. This is one habit that I have brought into this new year seeing prayer is my foundation for everything I do. This prayer has kept me under the Protection, Grace and the Mercy of God. I say this office prayer every day I step foot in my office. I must admit that one day I put off saying my prayer to later in the day and it was a day from hell! I quickly stop what I was doing and knelt to pray. After that, my day was on and popping! If you are of like faith as I am feel free to copy, share, print and put this office prayer in a nice frame in your office as I did. Feel free to change the name...I did to "Arnita's Office Prayer" The author is unknown and I don't even remember who gave it to me. Enjoy!
Lord Jesus, as I enter this workplace,
I bring Your presence with me.
I speak Your peace, Your grace, and Your perfect order into the atmosphere of this office.
I acknowledge Your Lordship over all that will be spoken, thought, decided and accomplished within these walls.
Lord Jesus, I thank You for the gifts You have deposited in me.
I do not take them lightly, but commit to using them responsibly and well.
Give me a fresh supply of truth and beauty on which to draw as I do my job.
Anoint my creativity, my ideas, my energy so that even my smallest task may bring You honor.
Lord, when I am confused, guide me. When I am weary, energize me.
Lord, when I am burned out, infuse me with the light of Your Holy Spirit.
May the work that I do and the way I do it bring hope, life, and courage to all that I come in contact with today.
And, oh Lord, even in this day's most stressful moment, may I rest in You.
In the name of Jesus my savior I pray.
‘Sticks and stones may break ones bones but words or names will never hurt’…Ump, news flash, yes they do. They break and they hurt! Words and names break hearts and in the process kill dreams and crushes ones spirit. Contrary to ones’ belief words and names are so powerful that they carry life and death and this power lie in the power of ones’ tongue. Growing up I had my share of bumps, bruises, cut and stitches that left blemishes on my body. However, in time those imperfections healed and some disappeared. Now on the other hand I have been called out of my name with words I choose not to take the time to type. Being called those names or even having my name said incorrectly still pains me to this day to some degree. Regarding this matter, let’s just say that I am a work in progress. For those of you who know me you are well aware that I correct individuals when they pronounce my name or my daughter’s name incorrectly… It’s ‘R-knee-ta’ (that’s how it sounds) not Arneda, or Anita, but Arnita. Oh yeah and make sure you put the emphasis on the T. lol. Why am I such a stickler for getting names right? Names have meanings, significance, implications and substance. Research indicates that your name can influence the assumptions that other people make about your character and background, and thus the chances you are given in life. Yet still there are those who succeed despite potentially problematic names. Take for instance President Barack Hussein Obama who joked in 2008: "I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn't think I'd ever run for president." But wait let’s look at the meaning of our 44th Presidents name. Barack is an African name meaning “Blessed” Hussein is an Arabic name meaning “Good or handsome one” and Obama means to “lean or bend”. A powerful name in itself! What about your name? Have you every researched what it means? Well neither did I until my husband one day said, ‘Babe your name means Eagle Girl.’ That explains my infatuation with eagles. I simply love them. In addition, that explain why my favorite bible scripture is “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will walk and not be weary, they will run and not faint” Isaiah 40:31. Once I realized what my name meant I had a different pep in my step and a smoother glide in my stride. Turn up and just call me ‘Eagle Girl!’ Now there is one NAME that is above all names and even at the mention of that name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord of All. What name carries such power? No other name than name of Jesus. Now that is a name you want to research. I did some research on some names below. If your name is not listed I encourage you cut out some time to research and find the meaning of your name. Let me know what you find by commenting on this blog. When you find out what your name means you too will have a different way of looking at WHO you are and WHO’S you are. In addition, you won’t answer to just any ole name. Note: In your research keep in mind the spelling and the origin of your name as well.
‘I know exactly how you feel’….. ‘I know what you are going through’… ‘I can relate’… ‘I feel ya’… ‘I totally understand’… I gotta tell you I would rather you say, ‘I am here for you’ then to hear those knee jerk responses. And then again silence can be golden. You see, if you have not endured my pain do not mock or should I say minimize my pain or anyone else’s pain for that matter. If you have not experienced it you cannot truly know about it. ‘Ya Feel Me?!’ Even if you think you have walked in my shoes… here’s a thought, try running in my shoes…not my running shoes but rather try running in my 6 inch pumps and while you’re at it don’t just run a mile….run a frickin marathon in my 6 inch pumps. Even then you still can’t begin to know how I feel. I am about to step on some toes so put your steel toed shoes on. This is the one that probably gets most of you…When one race says to an opposite race ‘I know what you have been through’. Really, really, wow, Ya feel me!?
This goes deeper… You may be confident that you know your gurl or your homie therefore from the outside it may appear that they have it all together, wrapped tight, got it going on. The smiles they adorn daily only masked the disappointment, anger, bitterness inside that daily chisel at their self-esteem and confidence. Because inside that person is dealing with robbed opportunities time and time; having that one moment in time when they are racing with destiny slip right through their hands, losing their mother, losing their great niece, being discriminated against repeatedly by vary people who have the same color skin as theirs. Why? Because of intimidation, jealously and fear that you may be better than them, having to hearing the words ‘to have’ and ‘to hold’ so many times that instead of having they would rather be without and instead of holding they would rather just let go! Ya Feel me?!
If you do feel me it is only because you have been THROUGH PAIN, not necessarily mine but still pain and you have endured it! Endured the tears, the sleepless nights, and the heartaches, the self-defeating thoughts that bombard your ever second. I am here to tell you that weeping may endure for a night but JOY TRULY COMES IN THE MORNING! This life…this race is not given to the swiftest/fastest runner…(though I would have liked to have made the team at least one time!) but it is given to the one who endures to the end.
So the next time you want to say someone ‘I know how you feel’, ‘I understand’, or ‘I feel ya’… stop and let your actions speak louder than words. Be there…. it’s empathy and not sympathy. It may mean walking with them and not so much talking to them, it ‘s ears and tears and not your own cheers. Ya Feel Me?! You may have been through a lot but know that Champions get back up once they have fallen incalculable times. Keep in mind it takes more to be ACHAMPION!

Let’s be real, what guides you will drive you and vice versa! Whether it’s a “who” or a “what” it inevitably guides AND drives your actions, decisions, choices and most importantly your future. Whatever your guide may be it is either guiding you to be the best you can be or driving you out of your mind and away from your goals.
Let me take a poll…shake your head if you have at one point been driven by your emotions, your past, a family member, your haters sipping on ‘Haterade irresponsibly’ …are you shaking your head yet? …what about that individual you are following on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest that you dare not “like” or comment on any of their postings… you just wanna see what they are doing. Little do you know those post your are 'peeping out' determine what your next action will be. If that individual is looking good, you wanna look better, (and if you are saying you don't...you are lying to yourself...I am just saying) if they seem happy with their boo, you can best believe that you are going to make sure you and your boos' relationship is tight and right. If they have purchased a new toy of some sort, you strategically begin to figure out what areas you can cut back on to keep up with 'The Kardashians'. (ouch… did I get cha?) …Okay how about these… do any of these guide you? Money, failure, God, your ex, your BFF, someone who has passed away, a teacher, your spouse or today’s technology. hmmm, did I forget anything or anyone? Of course…Duhhh, what about YOU! At the end of the day, you are the one who determines if you stay or go; love or hate, get or give…No one but You! I was taught at a wise age…'If it is to be….it is up to me!' (Thanks Coach G aka Ernest Gregoire)
All those I mentioned above are all fine and good as long as it or they guide and drive you to be better than who you were yesterday. Hear me out when I say, if it or they no longer guide you…just know that it or they hide and drive you. Hides your talents, your gifts and the very purpose you were created for! In doing so it drives you further and further away from your goals, dreams and desires. Listen, don’t get me wrong, if your 'haters' drive you to love more, give more and live more….then be driven! Choose your guides wisely. Make your journey with your guide one that you can look back on and say ...Well done and not... Welllll….Here’s AChampion’s Thought…. "If by chance on your journey a DOOR closes....put your head down only to pray.... then look up, for Your Lord is about to open up the WINDOWS of heaven and pour you out a blessing you don't have room to receive! You may be asking yourself “how does she know?” Well, I have been there, done that, however I am “Not Done Yet!”

Let me hear from you....Comment and let me know Who or what guides you and why?
